Probabilities
Below are the probabilities, or odds of
winning for each of the betting options for both the European (has only one
zero) and American (has both zero and double zero) versions of the game.
It is obvious that the European version of roulette is a better game for
the player. As well as being played in Europe, this version is also
the standard game in Australia, New Zealand, and is also played in a few
casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
As an example of the difference between the two games, for every dollar
you bet on European Roulette, you could expect to get back 97.37 cents
over the long run ($1 minus the house edge of 2.63%, or 2.63 cents).
For American roulette, you could only expect to get back 94.74 cents.
